Here’s a glimpse of what you may discover in the local area.

History and heritage

Heacham village sign

Heacham has been a seaside resort since the Victorian times thanks to the opening of a railway line between King’s Lynn and Hunstanton in 1862, and, believe it or not, the village has ties to Pocahontas!

Those seeking heritage and history can explore the village’s lanes for signs of its long history, or head to the nearby Sandringham Estate, the country retreat of the royals. Wander the grounds and gardens or step inside the house’s state rooms.

In Heacham and its vicinity, you’ll find cafés, pubs and small eateries suited to relaxed eating after a day out.

A short drive will bring you to the cafés and restaurants of Hunstanton and surrounding villages, broadening choices.

For a special outing, eateries around Sandringham and near the estate can offer more refined dining.

Natural beauty

Sunset through the dune grasses

Heacham looks across The Wash and offers sunsets over the sea — a rarity on the east coast!

Coastal paths lead north to Hunstanton’s cliffs and beach, and south toward quieter marshland stretches around Snettisham and the RSPB reserve. Marshy shoreline and mudflats play a key role in the ecology of the area.

In season, enjoy a visit to the Norfolk Lavender fields, a delightful sight.

Family fun

If you’re joined by little ones, visits to the arcades and beaches in Heacham and Hunstanton will offer the true British seaside experience!

The nearby Snettisham Park Farm is a great day out, with animal feeding, pony rides and deer safaris.

You can also enjoy a seal safari boat trip from Hunstanton into The Wash during the spring and summer months.
